From the Curator's Room

Welcome to the blog of The Curator's Room, the written companion to our exhibitions, performances and studio visits. All texts here are curated by Sara van Bussel, Milan, in the same spirit that guides the gallery: a belief that art is ultimately relative, alive, and best encountered through conversation.

Expect three kinds of entries. Studio notes from visits with the artists we represent, Daniëlle Van Ark interrogating the object of photography, Caleb Stein tracing memory through Poughkeepsie streets, Andrea Orejarena mapping the allegories of war, these visits are where exhibitions begin, and here they begin for you too. Essay fragments on works in progress, because a piece often explains itself better in words before it does in vitrine glass. And performance documentation: 'I'll dance as fast as I can' and its descendants live on in text after the lights come down.

We publish irregularly, as the work dictates. Art that is worth showing is rarely worth rushing, and the same goes for writing about it. Comments travel to the artists; disagreements are welcome, indifference is the only failure.

Start with the latest entry, or wander the archive by artist. The room is small, the door is open, and the coffee, if you visit in person, is famously strong.
