ZAC YEATES   ‘Just Another Day’15 September – 15 October 2022

ZAC YEATES
`JUST ANOTHER DAY´

The Curators Room – La Oficina Barcelona, presents the first solo show of the young artist Zac Yeates in Spain.

OUR EVERYDAY LIFE HIDES SMALL MOMENTS THAT COULD END UP DEFINING AN ‘EXTRAORDINARY LIFE’.

“Just another day” is shaped as a eulogy to our lives that squeezes in its maximum expression, those daily actions that could pass “without pain or glory” in our routine.

An inevitable grimace of amusement appears on our face when we watch Zac’s work, an authentic aesthetic monologue that seems to come out of the purest Stand-Up comedy and where its protagonists overflow us with all their wit.
Direct, brief, under a theme and with a protagonist as the axis of the whole work, welcome to this great show, the one where the faces become bodies, where the elements come to life and where a gesture becomes an intention.

Totally disproportionate physiognomies, faces-mouths with thick lips and big eyes, characters out of the “nonsense” but that awaken in us an inexplicable closeness, perhaps in the satire of their lives we recognize something familiar.

Situations and common things plagued with elements and “pop acts” take on a significant relevance in each of these characters, who are shown to us, with their triumphs and their vulnerabilities in a totally real way, at the peak of an emotion, an event or an act. Expendable moments when it comes to narrating someone’s life, but which give off a universal humor that capture us.

A forceful and clear technique ends up bewitching us, textures and volumes explore the boundaries between painting and sculpture and almost seems to make these surreal characters corporeal.

Under the premise of “It would be fun if…” Zac Yeates generates each of these works with the conscious fullness of someone who knows how to smile at life and laugh at it, a true statement of intent, to this life: “we have come to play”.
